Meet the Loop team

An insight into the life and role of Andrew Patterson, Production Assistant

Andrew Patterson

Andrew’s interest in technology began during his IT support days. However, it was during his time in Rotorua, where he found a passion for the hands-on aspect of soldering and producing tangible electronic products. This passion for practical work led him to leave IT support behind and focus on manufacturing and refurbishment.

After studying business computing courses at Polytech, Andrew initially pursued a career in IT support. His interest in technology and computers led him to work for a national PC builder. A new career path opened for Andrew, when he was offered the opportunity to work with his stepfather soldering electronic boards for his small Rotorua-based electronics company, eventually becoming the companies’ main Production Assistant. Andrew then made the move back to his home city of Hamilton, accepting an opportunity at Loop and transitioned into his current role as a Production Assistant, a position he has held for 13 years.

Andrew’s role at Loop has evolved over time, after initially being responsible for refurbishing products that had reached the end of their life. This involved identifying worn-out components and replacing them to extend the products’ lifespan. His recent work has been in manufacturing controllers for Powerglide and a KiwiRail project, building brand new PCB cards contributing to the development of a user-friendly locomotive fault monitoring system.

For Andrew, the best part of his job is the supportive and friendly team at Loop. He considers them a second family, and working alongside them feels more like pursuing a common goal than a typical job. He enjoys the large variety of tasks in his work and appreciates the absence of a daily grind in his job.

Andrew is driven by his love for what he does, his dedication to producing high-quality products, and his customer-centric approach. He values pushing himself to do his best, ensuring the utmost quality and customer satisfaction while maintaining a genuine passion for technology.

Outside of work, Andrew is a family man and spends a lot of time with his two grandchildren. He enjoys going on long walks, mountain biking, and playing golf, however, since the arrival of his grandchildren, activities with them have become his primary focus.

Andrew Patterson’s journey from IT support to becoming a dedicated Production Assistant at Loop is a testament to his passion for technology and hands-on work. Andrew’s love for his job, commitment to quality, and customer-centric approach shine through in his work, benefitting customers as well as Loop.
