We have an extraordinary team of key people, qualified and experienced professionals who have a genuine passion for electronics and excellence in service delivery. A collaborative culture and the depth of our collective expertise continue to power an evolving business with many clever dimensions.
Ross Olifent
Ross and fellow executive director, Roger Hurst, have owned Loop Technologies since 2011.
They met while working together in the servicing and repair branch of Telecom, now known as Spark, which spun off to become Repair Group Ltd in 1999, and later Loop Technologies.
Ross studied a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Canterbury. Ross’ career began in telecommunications engineering and evolved into technical management, capital expenditure analysis with responsibility for large capital expenditure programmes and project delivery.
Ross thrives on the process of creating bespoke solutions for customers, often creating new functionality that integrates into and enhances existing systems. He derives deep satisfaction from engaging in collaborative problem-solving with the talented team at Loop Technologies.
Outside of work Ross is a dedicated race car builder and driver, revving up his Alfa Romeo for heart-pounding Trofeo race meets and spending hours fine-tuning the performance of his car. He also enjoys trout fishing and boating on Lake Taupo.
Roger Hurst
Roger and fellow executive director, Ross Olifent, have owned Loop Technologies for 13 years.
They met while working together in the servicing and repair branch of Telecom, now known as Spark, which spun off to become Repair Group in 1999, and later Loop Technologies.
Twenty-five years on, Roger and Ross now head up a full-service electronics company, with a team of 65 engineers, technicians, and logistics specialists based at Te Rapa in Hamilton.
Their similar paths have run parallel since they both studied a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Canterbury.
Most of the Loop management team have also been at the business more than 20 years, where their long-time clients include Chorus, Spark, NZ Defence Force, Transpower, Fire and Emergency NZ, NZ Police, Department of Corrections, and KiwiRail.
Roger’s personal interest in electronics began at age 10 and has developed significantly over time, from soldering circuits as a child to designing and building hi-fi equipment today.
He enjoys owning a business where no two days are the same and the challenges to find effective solutions for complex electronic needs. He enjoys working with Loop’s loyal customer base, with whom he has gained a high level of trust.
After a career spanning communications system design to managing projects and large teams, to owning Loop, Roger now enjoys the occasional opportunity to get back to designing component level electronics that first ignited his interest as a 10 year-old.
When he’s not deep in the electronics world, Roger shares a keen interest in karate with his children. He also loves health and fitness and using his in-home gym in a bid to ensure he can continue to keep up with them.
Stephen Chibnall
Stephen started his working life at KiwiRail, where he spent 17 years providing technical…
support of electronics before moving to Loop in 1996.
As a Business Manager he gets satisfaction from leading a team of technology specialists and working with customers to support their products and find solutions for their technical issues.
He specialises in obsolescence mitigation of electronics, giving network operators control of their hardware upgrade decisions as opposed to forced purchases when technology is no longer supported by the manufacturer.
Stephen has a love of the outdoors and tramping, particularly walking the NZ Great Walks – aiming to knock off one or two each year. He likes cooking foods of the world and is a keen baker. Stephen enjoys kayak fishing in the Firth of Thames and Hauraki Gulf, and for the past 20 years has passed on his knowledge to young astronomers at the Hamilton Astronomical Society.

Glenn McCarthy
Glenn joined Loop (then Telecom Repair Group), as a fresh-faced 18-year-old in 1995,…

He then shifted to the management team where he spent five years establishing Loop’s Technical Solutions team specialising in design and manufacturing.
